RESPECT YOURSELF • Avoid presenting yourself in an unflattering or inappropriate manner • Select names and images that portray you in a positive light • Do not post any information that you would not want your mother, grandparents or employer to see
PROTECT YOURSELF • Do not publish a schedule of your activities • Set the privacy settings to control access to your updates, posts or profile • Protect passwords and accounts • Report any attacks or inappropriate behavior directed toward you • If you meet an online friend, discuss it with people you trust and NEVER meet them alone
RESPECT OTHERS • If you wouldn’t say it in person, do not say it online • Do not use electronic media to bully, harass or stalk others • Do not visit sites that are degrading, racist or inappropriate • Do not abuse your rights of access and do not invade the privacy of others
PROTECT OTHERS Every social networking site, instant messaging tool, chat room, wiki, blog and social media site has a report abuse contact. USE IT! We can protect others by not tolerating and reporting unacceptable behavior.
RESPECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY • Cite sources of information and images • Give credit when credit is due • Ask permission before using something you did not create • Link to websites rather than downloading and reposting • Share your own materials but not the materials of others
PROTECT INTELLECTUAL PROPERTY • Request to use software and media others produce • Use open source software rather than pirating software • Purchase, license and register software • Purchase music and media and refrain from distributing it in a manner that violates licenses
