The Shape of Voice a Cable Network Tom
The Shape of Voice a Cable Network Tom Kennedy VP Product Management Big. Band Networks
The Challenge • Wall street's perception is that the MSO's growth is declining. Hence no big stock gains for shareholders. • Wall Street wants an EBITDA of 15% in 2008 for MSOs. • To achieve the goal via telephony, they need to capture 60% of the residential telephony business by 2008 and that doesn't seem possible.
The Opportunity § Cable Vo. IP (and non-Vo. IP) telephony subscribers in the United States is expected to climb to 4 million by year-end 2004, up from 2. 8 million in 2003. This figure will jump to 7. 5 million (3. 7 million Vo. IP) in 2005 and 13 million (8. 9 million Vo. IP) by year-end 2006 § Source: Convergence Consulting (CED Magazine, September 2004),
The Solution • How can this be achieved? • Aggressively rollout residential, primary-line voice services • Capturing revenue on the SIP based voice traversing the cable networks today • Pursuing SMBs with T 1 over DOCSIS services.
