WELCOME TO THE SPRING SEMESTER 2017! • This semester is approximately 18 weeks long! • We will have days off for the following: • Martin Luther King Day (Monday, January 16 th) • President’s Day (Monday, February 27 th) • Spring Break (Friday, April 7 th / Class Resumes Monday, April 17 th) • Memorial Day (Monday, May 29 th) Last Day of Class is Thursday, June th 8 !
WELCOME TO SCIENCE CLASS! WHAT TO EXPECT: • ENVIRONMENTAL SCIENCE (WEEKS 1 -3) • GEOLOGY (WEEKS 4 -6) • ASTRONOMY (WEEKS 7 -9) MIDTERM EXAM; APRIL 7 TH • OCEANOGRAPHY (WEEKS 10 -12) • BOTANY (WEEKS 13 -15) • ZOOLOGY (WEEKS 16 -18) FINAL EXAM; JUNE 8 TH
Classroom Projects Pick ONE(1) lesson section from each half of the semester, then see me for your subject. Research your subject and write up a two-page essay about your subject. At the end of each class, we will designate 7 -10 minutes for you to present to the class a brief summary about your subject. Each presentation will correlate with the section we are on. Some students will present before spring break, and the rest after. Depending how many students pick which sections, you may or may not get your top pick! Have a back up!

Looking For Extra Credit? Join Science Club! Students who join Science Club not only get to explore more in the field of Science, but can also get help from myself and other students if you are struggling with homework. Students get FIVE (5) EXTRA CREDIT POINTS for each week that they show up. *Science Club meets in this classroom at 2 PM after school lets out on Tuesdays.
Mid-Term and Final Exams Mid-Term Astronomy Final Exam April 7 th June 8 th Come prepared with a pencil, or two! 50 Questions Environmental, Geology & 50 Questions Oceanography, Botany & Zoology Plus a 3 Paragraph Essay on the Subject Assigned to You on Your Test Packet Don’t be Afraid to come to me after class or after school until 3 pm for help. Rules (and tips) for the Classroom • Come Prepared! • Have assignments ready on their due date. I very rarely accept late assignments! • Be kind to your classmates • Be ready to take notes! Science is all about OBSERVATION and EXPERIMENTATION • Be sure to go through the chapters of your textbook for extra information and vocabulary • Don’t be afraid to ASK QUESTIONS – Science can get hard and you may not understand, but I am more than happy to help! • Check out Science Club! Just ONE visit earns you extra credit and you never know what you may learn or even teach to your peers! • HAVE FUN!
LAB DAYS FRIDAYS ARE LAB DAYS • Wear comfortable shoes and some kind of clothing that you don’t mind getting messy! • Students will work in pairs • I will provide safety gear for your eyes, ears and hands
Welcome to Science Class Six Scientific sections in 18 weeks is a lot, but I know you can do it! Don’t forget to take notes, ask questions, check out Science Club and have fun! Fridays are Lab Days Only 2 exams and 1 project!
