Additional Considerations
Additional considerations • There additional things that we had to keep in mind as we upgraded: • • • Reporting Security Integration rewrites Change management Licensing © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
Reporting • World. Writers, Dream. Writers, STAR and FASTRs go away! • Big pain point for many long time World users • There are other options • One. View reporting • Oracle Analytics Cloud reporting • Reports. Now / Insight • Query capabilities in E 1 9. 2 • Custom report development • Seaboard chose to leverage One. View and Reports. Now to address the reporting needs © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
Security • Security is much different than the older versions of World • • Role based vs. menu based Seaboard took the opportunity to optimize the security model Removed unnecessary / obsolete security records Optimized the number and focus of roles © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
Change management • Change management is much more important on a World to E 1 upgrade • Much different user interface • No more function keys! More use of the mouse – often takes some time to get used to • Heavy data entry users had the most impact and biggest learning curve • By leveraging change management throughout each project, we were able to ensure users were ready at go live, with minimal interruption to their day to day processes © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
Integration rewrites • Many of the Seaboard interfaces had to be re-written for E 1 • Field properties had changed (e. g. null vs. blank) • Error conditions were different – things that passed in World often error out in E 1 • Data integrity between modules or subledgers was more robust in E 1 • Don't make the assumption you can just repoint from World to E 1! © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
Licensing • Make sure you involve your Oracle sales rep to discuss any licensing implications • If you're off support, there may be a license cost impact • This is a good opportunity to think about the module footprint you need long term – potential opportunity to replace 3 rd party systems © 2019 Grant Thornton LLP | All rights reserved | U. S. member firm of Grant Thornton International Ltd
