The Scars in my Society An Introduction to Contextual Research
Visual Diary Template: One of the requirements for a practical task is to understand your process in the context of the Art world. It is therefore important that you research a minimum of three artists that relate to your work in terms of: - Subject matter - Approach - Style - Ideology - Theme Try to include both International and South African artists as well as historic and contemporary artists. On the right is an example of the information that is required for each artist that you research.
Choose THREE of the artists featured in the handout. Create a page for EACH artist in your Visual Diary that includes the following: • • Name and Surname Nationality 2 -3 pictures of their work with empirical data Which SOCIAL ISSUE does their work address and how do they show their ideas in their work?
IMPORTANT…
Research and Referencing Taking credit for work that is not yours is called plagiarism. Plagiarism must be viewed in the same light as an examination irregularity, resulting in serious consequences in the assessment. To avoid this 'theft' of intellectual property we must reference our sources when we do research for an assignment/essay/project. Referencing is a standardised method of acknowledging sources of information and ideas that have been used. Direct quotations, facts and figures, as well as ideas and theories, from both published and unpublished works and all Internet sources must be referenced. An electronic search may be conducted during internal or external moderation in order to verify the integrity of the contents in the learner’s work.
