THE ROLE OF THE FORESTS AND WOODEN PANE IN SOCIO – ECONOMIC DEVELEOPEMENT OF THE AREA OF WŁOCŁAWEK FORESTRY MANAGEMENT

Due to the fact that we live in the area of Włocławek Forestry Management, in our presentation, we decided to focus on the specificity of forests and wooden pane of this region. This is also a chance for us to develop our awareness of the subject, explore the ways of exploitation, as well as the influence on the socio - economic development. Passing the forests on our everyday way to school or work, we don't even realise how many people find employment thanks to the woods, or what's the crucial role of the forests in creating economic situation, especially when it comes to small or middle-sized villages or towns. Thanks to participating in "Young People in European Forests" project, we can start wondering about surrounding environment, which we have observed since our childhood.

THE FORESTS OF WŁOCŁAWEK FORESTRY MENAGEMENT Forestry Management of Włocławek is located in the south - east part of Kuyavian - Pomeranian Voivodeship. Its area is around 24962 acres. Along with the neighbouring Forestry Managements, our Forestry Management created, in 1995, Forest Promotion Complex called "Gostynińsko - Włocławskie Forests". Our Forestry Management consists of three ambits: Włocławek, Jedwabna and Czarne, divided into fifteen forestries. As for the property structure, our woods totally belong to the State Treasure. The area of the Forestry management characterises with a high forestation, reaching even 38%. The main species of trees is a pine tree (82%). Moreover, there a black pine, a larch, a spruce, a beech, an oak, a maple and a poplar, among others. Average of the local trees is 62 years.

As for the environmental aspect, the forests of Włocławek Forestry Management belong to the most interesting ones in the region. In the area of our woods, there are eight nature reserves, five areas: Nature 2000 and twenty - two natural monuments. There is one of the biggest population of protected smooth snake. Moreover, in Kulin Nature Reserve, you can see dictamnus - ardent Moses' bush, which, growing wild, can be seen only in Włocławek and in the region of Dąbrowa Górnicza. source: krzewy. net. pl

WOODEN INDUSTRY IN THE AREA OF WŁOCŁAWEK FORESTRY MANAGEMENT It's estimated that forest can be used in more than 30 000 ways, and, with respect to it, the industry which is based on it, is undoubtedly an important element powering economy. Włocławek Forestry Management obtains annually (depending on the sold amount and the prices of stock) around 15 000 PLN of income from selling wood. Due to a high forestation, the area of the Forestry Management is the area of a great concentration of wooden industry institutions, for instance sawmills, which are located, for example, in Włoclawek, Kowal, Krzewenta, Osięciny, Radziejów and Rybnica. FORESTS AS THE AREA THAT PROVIDES OCCUPATION FOR PEOPLE A forest is not only a place of relaxation and recreation, but it's also the source of income for many people. There are ninety- six people in Włocławek who are employed by Zakład Usług Leśnych (Wood Service Company). Forty- seven of the above are the part of Forest Service. Our Forest Management is divided into fifteen forestries with two-people crew: a Forest Ranger and a Deputy Forest Ranger. We and the head of Włocławek Forestry Management

NON - WOOD FOREST LAND OF WŁOCŁAWEK REGION Under the term of "non - wood forest land" there are material assets of plant origin, animal origin or mine character, which are , as they were, "the side effect". It's one of the elements of forest's economy and politics, which, contrary to appearances, has a great social significance. For a lot of people picking forest fruit or mushrooms is seasonal source of income. According to the data, which we gained from the local Forestry Management, this institution sales "stroisz"- spruce branches as well as spruces as "Christmas trees" ("stroisz" - 50% and Christmas trees - 50 %) Another crucial non-wood area are herbal plants picked by many people. As for the non-wood sphere of animal origin, economy of game in Włocławek Forestry Management is conducted in the area of eighteen ambits (hunting grounds) lasehold by fourteen Hunting Associations, which are part of Kuyavian Breeding Region. Włocławek Forestry Management controls the hunting economy, whereas it doesn't have a business activity bringing income in this field, with respect to which, it doesn't pay hunting compensations to the owners of crop fields. TOURISM AND RECREATION IN THE FOREST AREAS OF WŁOCŁAWEK REGION Allowing forest areas for the needs of tourism and recreation is a continuously developing element of forest economy. It's connected with the usage of places which can be attractive and possible for touristic and recreational facilities. All the activities in this field need promotion of touristic advantages of the region, and for this reason, our Forestry Management participates in various actions and events promoting knowledge of natural resources. The example of such actions can be "The Forestry Management Open Days". Thanks to participating in the project we've had an opportunity of visiting touristic places in our region. We have been on the didactic route of Dzilno Lake and on walking route in Włocławek, as well as in Educational Park. We weren't aware of existing such beautiful places in Włocławek Forestry Management.

THE NUMBER OF INDIVIDUAL FACILITIES IN THE TOURISTIC – RECREATIONAL AREA OF WŁOCŁAWEK FORESTRY MANAGEMENT

DANGER CONNECTED WITH FOREST EXPLOITING Forest fires and litters are two main problems the local forest services have to face. Forest devastation is unfortunately wide ranged. It's associated with arsons, destroying touristic facilities, creating illegal rubbish dumps and theft. In Włocławek Forestry Management, there is the biggest number of fires among Forest Managements of Toruń Management - about 70 a year. Most of them are caused by grass burning, arsons and irresponsible behaviour of adults and adolescents. Moreover, last year our Forest Management picked and took away more than 780 m³ of rubbish from the woods, which cost about 75 000 PLN. To prevent such threats Ecological Education Centre was founded at the Forestry Management's headquarters. It organises events and various activities to develop the awareness of people, concerning proper behaviour codes in the forest.
