The Mission of AVID's mission is to close the achievement gap by preparing all students for college readiness and success in a global society.

What is Academic Rigor? Rigor is the goal of helping students develop the capacity to understand content that is complex, ambiguous, provocative, and personally or emotionally challenging. AVID: 30 Years of Success Over 30 years, AVID has become one of the most successful college-preparatory programs for low-income, underserved students, and today reaches more than 400, 000 students in approximately 4, 500 schools in 47 states and 16 other countries/territories. Since 1990, more than 85, 500 AVID students have graduated from high school and planned to attend college.

Seventy-four percent of 2009 AVID graduates were accepted to a four-year college. 2012 -2013 Columbia Heights 5 th Year of AVID • 22 AVID seniors • 100% accepted to 4 -year colleges • 8 with Academic Awards • $47, 000 in Local Scholarships • Nearly $250, 000 in College-Based Scholarships • Presented Senior Portfolios to local Kiwanis and Rotary Clubs, as well as the School Board and freshmen classes

2012 -13 AVID Statistics • 124 AVID students in 5 sections • 20% of AVID students took an AP test • (compared to 11% of school) • 100% of AVID students were on track to graduate, having passed state standards tests and passed required classes • This year 145 AVID students in 6 sections
