THE RAVEN MONDAY 15 TH OCTOBER
THE RAVEN CLIP
BRAINSTORMING ACTIVITY Light vs Dark • The story takes place on a cold ‘dreary’ December at midnight • The only ‘light’ in the story comes from the fireplace and candles otherwise the story is dominated by ‘dark’ imagery and symbolism • The setting is deliberately spooky and depressing which is consistent with Gothic literature Good vs Evil • The Raven represents death and evil. He encourages Homer to insanity by replying ‘nevermore’. He haunts Homer to the point that he eventually loses his mind • The overall message is suggesting that life is futile.
