The PSU Summit Program Goals • Provide an opportunity to students who fall slightly

The PSU Summit Program Goals • Provide an opportunity to students who fall slightly below our typical admission standards to obtain a life-changing PSU education. • Live more fully into our commitment to serve the North Country and other underserved communities in the New Hampshire & The Northeast. • Utilize the resources needed for this program to provide additional support academically and socially for all first-year students.

Background • Each year PSU denies 500 -700 students both in-state and out of

Background • Each year PSU denies 500 -700 students both in-state and out of state who are just outside of the admissible range • The Summit program will provide an opportunity for these students who show promise in other ways (community service, family responsibilities, employment, social/religious organizations, etc. , ) or have experienced hardships that affected their high school performance (family hardships, emotional/physical hardships, financial situations, etc. , ) to be admitted to PSU as part of the Summit Cohort.

The PSU Summit Program Students would be accepted into the program on a case-by-case

The PSU Summit Program Students would be accepted into the program on a case-by-case basis that could include: 1. Complete of the traditional Application Process 2. Admissions Counselor Recommendation to be included in Summit Program 3. Recommendation from HS Guidance Counselor/Faculty Member/Administrator and/or Community Leader 4. A Personal Interview 5. Final admittance determined by the Summit Program Acceptance Committee made up of representatives from Enrollment, Faculty, Student Life and Dean of Students Office.

Suggested/Possible Support Needed • Fulltime Faculty Position to serve as Program Administrator for Summit

Suggested/Possible Support Needed • Fulltime Faculty Position to serve as Program Administrator for Summit & Ascent Programming – also serve as liaison for Orientation & Panther Days • Support for Faculty teaching these students could include: • Peer Assisted Learning Positions in classrooms • Additional Tutors • Professional Development/Training • • • Dedicated Success Coach Development of One Credit Toolkit Courses building study habits, etc. , Possible Placement Testing Overnight Orientation 2 Week Ascent Program Additional support for campuses services including counseling center, student conduct, student life and residential life
