The Prophet Amos

• Amos was from Tekoa, south of Jerusalem ISRAEL • He was a Shepherd and he kept fig trees JUDAH

At the time Amos lived • There were some very rich people • The rich didn’t care about the poor • They let the poor go hungry and made them homeless when they could not pay their rent • They spent money on themselves • Do you think this was right?

• In his heart Amos thought God was calling him to help the people. But Amos said • “I am not a prophet, nor am I the son of a prophet; for I am a herdsman and a grower of sycamore figs. ” (Amos 7: 34) • Amos didn’t want to get involved but in the end he knew he had to help

Amos goes to help • Amos showed the people a plumb line • A plumb line is still used today to see if things are straight • Amos said that people were not keeping to the straight and narrow. They were not doing what God wanted
