Principle #1 We are to Lead as Jesus Led Christian leaders seek to lead as Jesus led, for God's glory, for building up the church, and for the sake of the world. Christian Leadership should be based on the example of Jesus—how he led and ministered, how he trained his disciples to lead and minister, and how he empowered his followers to minister and serve in his name. The Leadership Stool is a tool for understanding and talking about leadership and its three foundations: Spirituality, Chemistry, and Strategy. Each component is modeled after how Jesus led.

Principle #2 Leaders Influence People to Fulfill God's Will. Christian leadership occurs when an individual influences a group of people to move forward in fulfilling God's will for themselves, their families, their churches, their communities, and sometimes the whole world. Who can be a Leader? Why God's Will?

Principle #3 The Best Leaders are Self-aware and Teachable. Self-awareness is revealed in your ability to "stand apart" from yourself and accurately observe how others and God see and experience you. Teachability is best revealed in your ability to ask questions and to allow the answers to shape your thinking and behavior. Without self-awareness and a teachable spirit, Christian leaders can become controlling, destructive, and toxic. Many leaders create protective environments that hide their real motives and nature. Increased self-awareness is the first step toward allowing God to transform you and your way of leading. Teachability accelerates your ability to learn how to live and lead more effectively.

The simplest way to grow in teachability is to ask others probing questions about themselves and about yourself. Teachability requires a willingness to be vulnerable—you will hear things about yourself that you won’t want to hear, but that is the necessary price of growth in leadership. In most cases, others will accurately identify your growth areas, so why not acknowledge the truth yourself? "That, however, is not the way of life you learned when you heard about

Principle #4 Godly Leaders are Formed through God's deepening and purifying work in your Life. Leadership presence is characterized by godliness, wisdom, knowledge, humility, strength, confidence, power, love and the Holy Spirit. Strength that comes primarily through either the use of positional power or force of personality is not the foundation for true Christian leadership. True leadership is based on your identity in Christ, God’s specific calling and purpose for your life, and the expectation of the power of God through the Holy Spirit. Christian leaders can then minister with presence and authority in “Holy Spirit confidence. ”

"Jesus called them together and said, "You know that the rulers of the Gentiles lord it over them, and their high officials exercise authority over them. Not so with you. Instead, whoever wants to become great among you must be your servant, and whoever wants to be first must be your slave—just as the Son of Man did not come to be served, but to serve, and to give his life as a ransom for many. " (Matthew 20: 25 -28)"

Principles 1. The best predictor of future performance is past behavior. (The best predictor of future ministry is past fruitfulness. ) 2. We would like our planting pastors to have at least 5 years of previous fruitful ministry experience. 3. Church planting is a young man's or young woman's game. 4. Is there evidence that people will follow this person? 5. Don't place too much importance on words - everyone can talk a good talk. Instead, watch for actions and fruit.
