GEOLOGY 12 WEEKS OF LOOKING AT ROCKS That’s what you signed up for, right?

NO! So what are we going to look at?

Geology is not simply the study of rocks. Geology: A scientific study of the Earth’s processes and materials.

Origin of the Earth

Earth Materials Atoms and molecules Rocks Continents Minerals

Geologic Processes Rivers

Caves

Volcanoes

Glaciers

Geologic Processes Energy Resources Erosion Anthropogenic Impacts

Geologic Processes Plate Tectonics (Mountain Building) Meteorites

Geologic Processes Earthquakes

Geologic Processes Atmospheric Studies Floods Fossils

Everything we use comes from the Earth Particularly in the form of natural resources. Most provided through geologic knowledge. Construction - cement, concrete and asphalt Fuel, light and heat - oil, gas and coal Water Prediction and avoidance of hazards, earthquakes, floods, volcanoes, landslides, erosion.
