- Slides: 18
The Pirates Next Door Week 3 Welcome to week 3 of the new book The Pirates Next Door. This week we are going to continue to explore the book together. This is the last week of our Summer Adventure together on board our Year 1 Ship.
Monday What we are going to learn today: English I can link what I read or hear read to my own experiences. I can write a sentence/sentences independently and be able to read them back to myself and another person. I can use punctuation in a sentence.
Monday • Open up the Pirates Next Door Power. Point • Reread the story so far together. • What can you remember before you start?
Monday Continued • Read slides 26 -29 together
Monday Continued • Where do you think the pirates are going? • What do think they are going to leave behind? • How do you know what they are going to leave is nice? • What words tell you that? • Are there any clues in the pictures? • How do you think Matilda and Jim feel? • How are they going to keep in contact and still be friends? • How are they going to send messages to each other?
Monday Continued • If you are apart from your friends and family it is really important to stay in touch, especially if they are far away. This is what has happened to all of us this year. • Can you write a message to put in a bottle? You could save this to give to friends or family later on. Or you could send a message to your family or friends at school. We could post your messages on Tapestry or our Year 1 website for your friends to see if you would like to. • Remember to put a capital letter at the beginning of the sentence and a punctuation mark at the end. This could be a full stop, a question mark if you are asking a question, or an exclamation mark if you have exciting news to share. Eg. I am on my pirate ship and I am sailing on the River Chet. What are you up to? I love being a pirate!
Tuesday What we are going to learn today: English I can link what I read or hear read to my own experiences. I can explore text and pictures independently. History/DT I can explore the lives of significant individuals in the past. I can design a pirate treasure map.
Tuesday • Open the book Power. Point. Talk about the story so far. • Read slides 30 -33 together.
Tuesday Continued • What has happened? • Why is there a cross on every lawn? • Why has everybody started digging? • What have they found? • Pirates Interesting Fact: very few pirates actually buried their treasure in real life as they often spent or invested the money immediately after leaving the ship. A very small number of pirates did bury their treasure to keep it safe from other people but there was always the danger that others could find it! Can you create a treasure map today? You could hide some treasure in your home or garden (with permission) and get another family member to find it using your map! Best of luck me hearties!
Wednesday What we are going to learn today: English I can link what I read or hear read to my own experiences. I can explore text and pictures independently. PSHE I can think about my new adventures next year in Year 2. I can record my favourite things from Year 1 and my time at home.
Wednesday • Open the Power. Point and recap the story up to now. • Look at slides 34 and 35.
Wednesday Continued • What has happened? • The people of the town have found their treasure. • Do they feel differently about the pirates now? • Why do you think that is? • Do you think they should have been nice to the pirates in the first place and not just because they got gifts? • Today we are going to read another story Jakes First Day. This is going to help us to think about our new classes and teachers in September. You can read the story on a Power. Point. • Share your thoughts and feelings as you hear about Jake and his new class. • Today we have an activity where you can share your favourite things about this year. We would love to see them.
Thursday What we are going to learn today: English I can link what I read or hear read to my own experiences. I can explore text and pictures independently. History I can explore further beaches throughout history Art I can create a 3 D beach in a jar.
Thursday • Open the story Power. Point and recap the story so far. • What have we learnt and what has happened? • The story is set in a seaside town. • Today we have two Power. Points for you to have a look at to further explore what beaches were like in the past. • You can also have a go at creating a beach in a jar with help from your family. You make one from the past or the present or both if you have time. If you don’t have any sand you can use ground up yellow/beige breakfast cereals – as long as your family does not mind you using it!
Friday What we are going to learn today: English I can link what I read or hear read to my own experiences. I can explore text and pictures independently. I can remember the sequence of events in a story. Linked Learning I can create a pretend pirate cafe. I can make up some pirate recipes
Friday • Please read the last slides of the Power. Point. • What happened at the end of the story. • How did they stay in touch? • Do you think they are still friends? • Even though they were far away from each other they found a way to stay friends. This is a really important thing to remember. When you go into your new classes you will have new friends and new adventures. But, remember your old friends will still be there for you. • Everybody in the Year 1 teaching team will miss you so much as you sail off to have your new adventures on your new Year 2 islands. We are still always there and will always remember you all. We will still see you each day and remember we are only ever a wave away.
Friday Continued • We thought it would be a really nice idea to say thank you to your family for all the fun and learning you have taken part in at home. • You could create a pretend pirate café and cook them a magical meal fit for a pirate. • You could try another pirate recipe together. • You could set up another treasure trail with the prize being a hug from you. • You could write them a secret pirate thank you note. • Thank you from the Year 1 team for being excellent pirates and we hope you have a wonderful Summer holiday!
