Brief Timeline of the Persian Empire Date Event 550 B. C. Cyrus II comes to power and is soon attacked by the King of Media. Cyrus goes on to defeat the opposing kings and conquer Lydia. 539 B. C Cyrus captures Babylon 529 B. C After invading India, Cyrus dies in battle 521 B. C After Cyrus dies, his son, Cambyses, came into power, and died in 522 B. C. Then Darius claimed the throne by defeating Bardiya (presumably Cambyses’ brother) 490 B. C The Persian Wars (490 – 479 B. C) – The Greeks and Persians battle for territory for several years. Both sides win some and lose some. 485 – 359 B. C Leaders come and go, including Xerxes and Artaxerxes, 330 B. C The end of the Persian Empire – After Darius III takes over, Alexander the Great of Macedonia ivades. After losing three battles with Alexander, Darius is defeated in 331 B. C, and is murdered in 330 B. C.

Persian Empire MAJOR CONFLICTS
Major Wars Between 559 BCE and 400 BCE there were approximately ten notable wars that, the Persian Empire was involved in, that impacted various regions of the middle east. Some being the Greco-Persian war, the Battle of Thermopylae and the Peloponnesian war.
Reasons for War �Each war that was fought by the Persian Empire had different reasons for why war was waged. However, it usually revolved around very essential things, such as more land to expand the empire. Or to gain access to more resources such as gold and precious metals that may not have been available in the kingdom. Which in turn would give the Persian empire more political power.

Categories • Religion: Islamic • Culture: The culture in Iran after the first empire was divided in two, Greek and Persia. Also they were greatly influenced by Egypt. • Art: Native Persian [Egyptian + Greco-Roman + Mesopotamia(2)] = Persian Art • Science: Mostly focused on nature, math, philosophy and medicine. Invented: distillation of alcohol and were involved mostly in algebra and chemistry • Technology: One of the highest marked technologists of their time • Architect: All that’s left is broken palaces and rock cut out tombs. However the best structure they have is Apadana.
