A FEW RULES In case of a fire alarm/lockdown, stay calm and follow your teacher’s lead
ATTENDANCE • Attendance is very important at St. Pius X • If you will be absent for more than 2 days in a row, please email the teacher • Deletion will follow an absence of 5 consecutive days
ATTENDANCE • When you show up late, you interrupt the class for everyone • By missing class, you are missing important material • It is not a good way to start a new program! • Most importantly, your being late on a regular basis and missing a lot of class says a lot about your reliability, punctuality, and professionalism. • Employers don’t want an employee who is not reliable!
MUTUAL RESPECT • Towards your classmates: • No bullying (social, verbal, physical or cyber) • Be considerate • Towards your teacher: • Arriving on time • Paying attention in class • Maintaining good attendance • Minimal social media usage (Facebook, You. Tube, etc. ) • Minimal cellphone usage
OVERVIEW OF THE COURSE • This introductory course will help you determine your desirability and suitability for becoming an accounting clerk. • The course will walk you through the training process and provide you with all the information necessary to understand the occupation of an accounting clerk and what is expected of you in this profession. • You will become familiar with the tasks of an accounting clerk by gathering information on different topics, participating in activities, looking at different job opportunities and completing a series of assignments and tasks, both individually and as a group.
OUTCOME OF THE COURSE At the end of this module, you will become familiar with: • The nature of the accounting occupation • The training process • What is expected of you in this career • Workforce expectations • Confirm your career choice
EXAMINATION • Your exam will take place throughout the Module in the form of 3 Phases • You will complete certain worksheets/activities during class time, which will count as your grade (your grade will either be a pass or fail) • Participation and attendance also count towards your grade • An incomplete exam or failing grade will result in having to re-take the module (no rewrites)
EXAMINATION • Since the majority of the phases and assignments require your personal opinion, the evaluation is not focused on a right or wrong answer, but rather on your participation and effort to gather and apply the information you have learned. • If you fall behind on any of the phases, a make up class at the end of the module (last day of class) will be available for you to catch up. • If you miss a lot of phases, only 1 class will not be enough time for you to catch up, so show up!
OVERVIEW OF THE ACCOUNTING PROGRAM • The accounting program leads to a DVS (Diploma of Vocational Studies) in Accounting. • The duration of the program is 1350 hours and consists of 90 credits (One credit = 15 hours of class time). • The program of study is divided into 23 modules, which vary between 30 to 120 hours in length. • The time given to the program does not only include teaching time, but also exam time and time for remedial work. • There will be a 120 hour stage at the end of the program.
WEEBLY • The class presentations and other course material will be accessible trough the following website: • http: //occupationandtrainingacco. weebly. com/ • The Phases count as your exam, so they will not be on the website.
USB • Please bring a USB to class everyday, starting tomorrow, if possible!
