Specifies the noncognitive, socio-emotional knowledge and skills that help students successfully transition from high school to college or careers. Describes the careerspecific opportunities for students to gain the knowledge, skills, and competencies they need to pursue and succeed in their chosen career. 5

College, Career and Citizenship Readiness Vision: College and Career Readiness in NYS will ensure that all students graduate high school able to • succeed in postsecondary programs of study and the workforce; • understand demonstrate citizenship skills; • contribute to the economic and democratic well-being of our society. Goal: By 2015, NYS will offer all students an established set of assessment pathways that are grounded in the Common Core Learning Standards, are similarly rigorous, allow for student choice and have demonstrated, effective outcomes for students.

PATHWAYS (June 2015 and thereafter) Each Pathway allows for students to substitute one of the following options for the second Social Studies Regents exam: Stem = A second math or science regents exam Humanities = A second SS regents exam Arts = Commissioner-approved Art assessment Biliteracy = Commissioner-approved language assessment CTE = Successful completion of an approved CTE program and 3 parts of a Commissioner-approved industry-based national technical assessment (*June 2016 and thereafter) CDOS= 4 Regents: Eng, Math, Science, one Social Studies Regent plus • Completion of the requirements for the CDOS Credential Option 1 or Option 2.

School Improvement Priorities for Americans September 2016 Phi Delta Kappan Survey results What Americans are saying… • Americans chose between a variety of possible strategies for improving public schools…support for offering more career and technical or skills based classes (68%) far exceeds the preference for more honors or advanced academic classes (21%) including (54%) who strongly prefer more vocational classes. • Preferences for vocational classes also is higher among those who view the main goal of public schools as preparing students for work (84%) or to be good citizens (74%)
