What Information and Support we offer to Patients going for a Lung Transplant 2018 The 2018 version of our Lung Transplant Guide for New Brunswickers in English and French. Separately, I have documents/pdfs with information titled: 1. Prior Approval with Medicare for Assessment Week, (setting up a file with Medicare NB) 2. Pre and Post -Transplant Instructions for Medicare regarding reimbursement 3. The Steps to getting on the list 4. Instructions to be reimbursed for the daily allowance from Medicare for the patient and their support person when they go for assessment week and subsequent checkups. 5. Hotels (hotels near the hospital where NBers have stayed) 6. Apartment contacts for when you have to move to Toronto
7. Travel (Air Canada, West. Jet, Via Rail, how to save money on the Support Person’s fare, and O 2 limits) 8. What expenses our government will reimburse you for and how much 9. How to set up a Go. Fund. Me or You Caring fundraiser page and other ideas. 10. What you need to do to stay as healthy as possible 11. Getting help from Social development, what our provincial health plans are for low income people and provide those contacts if needed. 12. We are willing to have people call and join our group from other Atlantic provinces. 13. Saskatchewan Lung is going to develop their own model based on ours
Changes Facilitated by the New Brunswick Lung Association for Lung Transplant Patients 2010 -2018 2013 - Home Care Supplies: these costs now paid for outside NB. 2014 – 201 - Medicare set up a direct billing system between TGH’s pharmacy and themselves for anti-rejection meds and other meds. 2016 - It was finally approved to pay the up to $1500. 00/month for an apartment even when the patient is hospitalized while in Toronto. 2018 - Medicare – Policy has been changed to approve up to $1500 towards apartment rent/accommodations for patients waiting for Lung Transplant in Montreal and after transplant. 2018 - Finalized the arrangements with a pharmacy in Montreal near the hospital to do 3 rd party billing for anti-rejection and other medications for patients.
