Since 1994 we have… • Invested more than £ 8 billion across the UK • Supported over 44, 000 projects 4
What do we fund? The full breadth of heritage! Anything from the past that your local community values and wants to pass on to future generations 5 • People’s memories and experiences (often recorded as ‘oral history’, or through reminiscence sessions) • Cultural traditions (stories, festivals, crafts, music and dance) • Nature (for example, habitats, species and geology) • Natural and designed landscapes such as parks and gardens • Archaeology • Historic buildings, monuments and environments • Objects, books or documents in museums, libraries or archives • Places and objects linked to our industrial, maritime and transport history
Aspara Arts Awarded £ 53, 500 Heritage the project focussed on: People’s memories of the Croydon Mela (1994 – 2010) Activities: • Recruitment and training of volunteer team to carry our project activity • 21 oral history interviews capturing memories of key people involved in event • Workshops, exhibition and documentary film • Archiving of material at Croydon Archive 6
Havering Association for People with Disabilities Awarded £ 3, 100 Heritage the project focussed on: Main Hall, which was a deployment hut for RAF Hornchurch in Second World War Activities: • Open Day at the “Hut” including vintage car procession and display, and WWII music, refreshments • Opportunity for Ha. D members to share their personal memories/stories of RAF Hornchurch • Social Media and local press activity 7
Brent Mencap 8 Awarded £ 9, 900 Heritage the project focussed on: Archive records of 379 – 381 High Road Willesden, an important Victorian building in Brent, now home to Brent Mencap Activities: • Volunteer led research at Brent Archives and The National Archives (visits) • Centenary celebration event at the buildings including tours, display of objects and heritage and local history workshops • Downloadable resources from The National Archives website
SEA Arts Awarded £ 37, 200 Heritage the project focussed on: Memories of Cambodians who moved to Hackney due to the genocide in their country during the 1970 s Activities: • Volunteer recruitment and training including in oral history • Recording of 25 oral histories and deposit with Hackney Museum • Exhibition, family learning workshops and lectures, including at Centre for Refugees • Microsite including oral history recordings 9
National Lottery Grants for Heritage: £ 3, 000 to £ 10, 000 National Lottery Grants for Heritage: £ 10, 000 to £ 250, 000 National Lottery Grants for Heritage: £ 250, 000 to £ 5 million 10
Who can apply? • Charities, trusts, charitable incorporated organisations • Community and voluntary groups • Community/parish councils • Community interest companies • Faith- based or church organisations • Other public sector organisations 11
Outcomes we are looking for • • • 12 A wider range of people will be involved in heritage (Mandatory) Heritage will be in better condition Heritage will be identified and better explained People will have developed skills People will have learnt about heritage, leading to change in ideas and actions People will have greater wellbeing The funded organisation will be more resilient The local area will be a better place to live, work or visit The local economy will be boosted
