The Movement • The skeleton can be considered as a system of organs, bones, cartilage and the ligaments work together to realize the functions of movement, support and protection to the internal organs. The skeleton provides the attachment points to the muscles and the muscular system ensures the movement. • The skeleton, as well as performing this function, supports our body and provides protection to some internal organs.

Skeletal System In adults the skeletal bones are 206. In a being average adult, the skeleton represents the 20% of body weight. You can distinguish the bones of the head, the trunk and the limbs, respectively, axial skeleton and appendicular skeleton.

Types of bones • Long bones: when they are developed in the longitudinal direction

Types of bones • Long bones: when they are developed in the longitudinal direction (ribs and femur). • Flat bones: They are extended to the surface (for example the bones of the skull and pelvis). • Short bones: They are almost equally developed in three dimensions.

The muscles • The muscular system is made up of organs, muscles, that generate movements thanks to their ability to contract, becoming shorter and bigger.

Types of muscles In most cases, the muscles realize the movement in cooperation with the bones and are called skeletal muscles. Involuntary muscles are the ones that we can not control: the muscles of the esophagus, stomach or heart. Skeletal muscles and those of the face, are controlled by our will and are called volunteers.
