Direct/Explicit Characterization • The text comes straight out and tells us details. • This kind of characterization takes a direct approach towards building the character. It uses another character, narrator or the protagonist himself to tell the readers or audience about the subject.

Indirect/Implicit Characterization • You must use the clues given by the text to figure out the characterization. The author does not directly tell you about the character.
