Important Vocabulary • Quaker- A Christian religious group that got their name because they believe people should quake before the power of the Lord. • Dutch- People from the Netherlands. • Conestoga- A type of wagon. http: //www. yourdictionary. com/conestogawagon
The Middle Colonies • New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Delaware • Originally started because King Charles II of England wanted more land to take the colonies from the Dutch. • Europeans immigrated to the Middle Colonies in search of a better life and for religious freedom, such as the Quakers who arrived in Pennsylvania after being granted land by King Charles II and started the settlement of Philadelphia.
Geography of The Middle Colonies • The Middle colonies were between the Atlantic Coastal Plain and the Appalachian Mountains. • Many rivers and lakes went through the Middle Colonies.
Economy of the Middle Colonies • The rivers and lakes throughout the Middle Colonies were used as waterways for sending lumber, crops, and animal furs. • The land had rich soil which allowed for farming and the Middle Colonies grew a majority of the food out of the three regions.
