The Microscope Lab Drawing and Microscope Techniques Bielke
Parts of the Microscope
Proper Lab Drawing Techniques 1. Use a ruler to make lines straight 2. Line up the words 3. Draw in pencil and include parallel label lines 4. Include total magnification –ex. - 40 x 5. Use a template for “field of vision” and draw what you see 6. Spell correctly 7. Include realistic colors by “shading” the figures 8. Include a title 9. If using a source; cite it
• Remember “neatness counts”
How to calculate magnification • On our microscopes, the ocular = 10 x The objectives equal – low = 4 x medium = 10 x high = 43 x To get total magnification – Multiply the ocular by the objective in place Ex. Low power – 10 x 4 = 40 x
Preparation of a slide Place one drop of solution Hold coverslip perpendic ular and let drop
What’s wrong with this drawing?
What was wrong with that ‘drawing’? • Words were not lined up • No parallel lines • Magnification? • Source? http: //www. blackpoolsixth. ac. uk/subjects/biology/resource/micro/source/36. html
