The Margate Caves Visual Story

This is the Margate Caves building, to get to the entrance of the building we ask that you use the two ramps. The door will be open and you will be greeted by a member of staff.

You may see staff behind screens on the counter at the entrance and in the cafe. All our staff wear lanyards that say “Margate Caves”. They are there to help you and will answer any questions you have about the Caves or your visit.

To get into the Caves you go down 32 steps, there are handrails for you to use.

The stairs go into a tunnel which you follow into the Caves. The tunnel is one way at a time. There are lights on the floor and the tunnel is well lit. Mind your head and watch your step as the floors are uneven.

At the bottom of the tunnel you are in the Caves. The ceilings are high and there are paintings to see. You can explore through tunnels and up stairs. There will be a member of the team in the Caves who can help you and answer your questions. The Caves can be echoey, if you need a break let a member of staff know and they will help you. When you are done exploring the Caves you go back the way you came in, through the tunnel and up the

After visiting the Caves you can find out more in our discovery room. At this time we ask that you do not touch, look through or turn anything in the discovery room.

In the Café you can buy food and drinks. You can take these away or eat in them in the garden. There are vegan, vegetarian and gluten free options, as well as a children's menu.

We have three toilets to choose from, one set up for children and babies and one accessible. If there is a queue you will have to queue outside of the building.

In our family toilet there is a step and an adaptable seat as well as baby changing facilities.
