This is Oprah Gail Winfrey. She is the first woman on television to be a television show host. I choose Oprah simply because I hear a lot about her, but I don’t really know her. She’s just a very known person. I’m willing to learn about her because she seems interesting.

Oprah was born January 29, 1954. She was born in Kosciusko, Mississippi. She grew up in poverty where she had to wear potato sacks as clothes and got picked on. She also got sexually molested at a very early age. After going to college, she became interested in journalism and media. She got her first job as a news anchor for a local TV station. Her emotion wasn’t fit for that show, so she moved to an ailing daily show where she took over. That show then became “The Oprah Winfrey Show”.

Oprah has became the first African American woman to be a television show host. The Oprah Winfrey show has proved to be one of the most successful and highly watched TV show of all time. Her show has broken many social bias problems such as gay and lesbian issues. She is credited with promoting an intimate confessional form of media communication, which has been imitated across the globe. She has won an Academy Award, Primetime Emmy Award, AARP Movie for Grownup Award, CINE Award, Daytime Emmy Award, etc. just for her talk show. This is important because it opened the door for other African Americans nationwide to get their own show such as Montel Williams.

I believe that Oprah is an inspiring woman. She’s an inspiration to women and men. She seems as if she has an open soul and open mind. I believe she is very outgoing and nice. I HOPE TO LEARN MORE OF HER !!
