The lighthouse keeper maths Each day Mr Grinling watches lots of boats go past while he stands in his lighthouse. Yesterday he spotted something rather odd with the boats and took a picture of what he saw. Can you work out what is wrong with this picture and make any changes needed? Mr Grinling is getting very annoyed with the seagulls stealing his lunch, this is how many seagulls came today. Yesterday four more came to steal his lunch. How many came yesterday? How many seagulls would there be if 10 more came tomorrow? Mr Grinling is hoping that 5 less come tomorrow. How many would that be?
Mrs Grinling goes down to the beach day and collects shells. On Friday she collected 21 shells, on Saturday she collected 28 and on Sunday she collected 18. On which day did she collect the most? On which day did she collect the least? How many shells would she have if she collected 10 more than Fridays collection? Hamish the cat also goes on the beach day with Mrs Grinling but he doesn’t collect shells instead he enjoys knocking sandcastles over. This is a picture of what he did yesterday. Altogether Hamish knocked 20 sandcastles over. How many sandcastles were there altogether to begin with? The children on the beach rebuilt 12 of the sandcastles. How many sandcastles are there now?
