EARLY LIFE Ken Blanchard was born in Orange, New Jersey on May 6, 1939, but spent his early years growing up in New Rochelle, NY He attended New Rochelle High School, and graduated from high school in 1957.

COLLEGE EDUCATION ►Attended Cornell University and received a BS degree in Government and Philosophy in 1961. ►Attended Colgate University and received a MA degree in Sociology and Counseling in 1963. ►Returned to Cornell University and received his Ph. D in Education Administration and Leadership in 1967.

THEORY OF EFFECTIVE LEADERSHIP n Blanchard states that the leadership style of the leader must correspond to the development level of the follower. It is the leader who must adapt, not the follower. To be an effective leader, a leader should be trained in how to operate effectively in various leadership styles, and how to determine the development level of others.
