The Last Prophet of Islam, Prophet Muhammad (S. A. W. ) completely changed the intellectual outlook of Arabia. Within a span of 23 years, he transformed the impious Arabs into a civilized and religious nation. On the demise os the Prophet, the expansion of Islam was not stopped.

• Akbar, the Mughal king had started a series of experiments with Islam, propagating his own religion Din-i-Ilahi, an amalgamation of Hindu and Muslim beliefs. In these circumstances, Sheikh Ahmad set upon himself the task of purifying the Muslim society. His aim was to rid Islam of the accretions of Hindu Pantheism. He was highly critical of the philosophy of Wahdatul Wujud, against which he gave his philosophy of Wahdat-ush-Shuhud.

• Shah Waliullah was born in 1703 to Shah Abdur Rahim, during the reign of Emperor Aurengzeb. He was known as Shah walliullah because of his piety. A prominent Sufi and scholar of Delhi

• Shah Abdur Rahim was on the committee appointed by Aurangzeb for compilation of the code of law, Fatwa-e-Alamgiri. His grandfather, Sheikh Wajihuddin, was an important officer in the army of Shah Jahan. • He had a son who was also a famous religious scholar, Shah Abdul Aziz.
