The Last Days of Jesus on Earth A Great Shock Luke 23: 26 – 24: 8 Today is Palm Sunday. We begin with a praise song we sing at church. One of the words, ‘Hosanna’, was used as Jesus rode into Jerusalem on a donkey. After singing say a prayer of praise and thanksgiving.

Two Thieves Luke 23: 26 – 43 Jesus had been arrested and was going to die. The soldiers led Jesus out to a hill outside Jerusalem. They nailed him to a wooden cross. Did he shout and complain? No. He said “father, forgive them…” A notice was fixed above his head which said “This is the King of the Jews”. The soldiers and the leaders laughed at Jesus.

He knew he deserved to die for what he had done, but he knew Jesus had done nothing wrong. He understood Jesus was a special kind of king. He said, “Jesus, remember me…” (Luke 23: 42) Jesus promised, “Today you will be with me in paradise” (v 43)

Two Angels Luke 24: 1 -8 Two nights passed. Early on Sunday morning, some women, who were friends of Jesus, went to the tomb to put spices on his body to make it smell nice. They were amazed to find the tomb open. The big, heavy stone was rolled away and when they looked inside – it was empty!

The angels reminded the women what Jesus had told them. “On the third day I will rise again” Jesus said he would be crucified for our sins. He said he would rise again on the third day. He was right!

The Last Days of Jesus on Earth Luke 23: 26 – 24: 8 Jesus was crucified on a Friday. Why do we call this ‘Good Friday’ when bad things happened? The answer…. . Because it was the day when Jesus saved people from their sin. Jesus came alive again on the Sunday. We call this Easter Sunday. Now Jesus is in heaven and he is king of everything!
