SCHOOL DISTRICT OWNED MEMBERSHIP What is SDM? • A new look to SNA membership – Individual and now… School District Owned (SDM) • Membership owned by a school district in the name of an individual • Transferable to another employee in same membership category when leaves district • Same benefits as individual membership • Pilot program
SCHOOL DISTRICT OWNED MEMBERSHIP • SNA’s membership will likely increase when school districts are financially stable and can afford to pay the membership dues • Advantage that membership at the employee and manager level is more stable • Membership is tracked at the national level
BUILDING CHAPTERS Chapter Issues • Chapter meetings appear not to be working as a viable meeting option in all areas of the country • Scheduled time and travel required are issues • Meeting length – Too long/too short • Generational issues about meeting topics • Not being paid to attend meetings • Childcare issues
BUILDING CHAPTERS What works? • Divide chapters into larger/smaller regions to address travel and participation issues • Involve Districts to plan meetings on a rotational basis – it can get competitive! • Have meetings organized by work groups (managers, employees, district directors…) • Virtual chapters (CA, WA) • Linking meetings to earning CEUs
