Where is Coll? • Coll is part of Scotland • It is an island a few miles from the mainland New Addington

What is Coll like? • The island of Coll is 13 miles long and just 3 miles wide. • Coll has lots of beaches, because it is surrounded by water • It is quite rugged, with rough grass and hills

How can we get to Coll?

By Ferry • The ferry can hold 90 cars and 638 passengers. It is 99 metres long and 16 metres wide. • The ferry travels to the island every day during the summer except Tuesday. In the winter the ferry only goes 4 times a week. • The ferry stops at the harbour in Arinagour village.

• The ferry goes to the nearest island, which is called Tiree, and to the mainland (Scotland). The ferry is used to bring all the supplies to the island, and the post!

Who lives on Coll? Only about 170 people live on Coll! They meet together once a year to take a picture of everyone who lives on the island.

How can we get around Coll?

Cars • There a few cars on the island. There is a small petrol station on the island. • People who live on the island will sometimes offer you a lift.

Tractors • Tractors are used on many of the farms on the island of Coll. • Some people use their tractors to drive around the island. Some of the adults on the island are farmers.

Bikes • Many people on the Isle of Coll have a bike • If you go to Coll on holiday you can hire a bike in the village of Arinagour. Bikes go free on the ferry!

The Village of Arinagour

Arinagour • Arinagour is the only village on the island of Coll. Most people on the island live there. • There is a Post Office and village stores, a hotel and a café. There are some small cottages on the main street, painted white.

The Primary School • There is only 1 school on the island, which is in the village of Arinagour. It was built about 55 years ago.

The Church • The church is on the coast of the island. • It is built of stone. • The church is about 600 years old, and has a cemetery next to it.

The Castle • There are 2 castles, the old one and the new one. They are both built of stone. • The old one is over 500 years old. It has large windows and a spiral staircase.

Animals on Coll • There are lots of animals on Coll. • Some of them are farm animals like sheep and cows.

What can you do on Coll? • Go to the beach … • There about 23 beaches on Coll. They are sandy and the water is very clear. • People go sailing, fishing, swimming and walking at the beach.
