RDTL INTRODUCTION Ø Area: 15, 007 Km/sq Ø Population: 1, 066, 582 (2010) Ø Capital: Díli Ø Nationality: Timorese Ø Official Languages: Portuguese and Tétum (national language) Apart from these there another 15 local dialects Ø Working Languages: English and Bahasa Indonesia Ø Restoration of Independence: 20 May 2002 Ø Currency: American Dollar (USD) Ø Main Port: Port of Dili 7

GENERAL ASSESSMENT Ø RDTL has not yet establish their Hydrographic Office Ø Naval Component of Timor Leste Defence Force has act as the RDTL Hydrographic Authority Ø RDTL interested to join IHO & EAHC but need to form up a proper Hydrographic Office Ø No competent Hydrographic Surveyors and Cartographers Ø Need help from EAHC to guide them 9

STATUS OF HYDROGRAPHIC SURVEYING Ø No information about official hydrographic survey by any RDTL government agencies Ø Most of Hydrographic Survey was done by Indonesian Private Company – President of Dili Port (No further information) Ø RDTL has not published any nautical chart Ø Covered by 10 Indonesian charts & 8 Australian charts with various scale 10

RECOMMENDATIONS Ø RDTL and Port of Dili invited in future EAHC and IHO meetings Ø RDTL be invited in some of capacity building programs to strengthen their capacities in the fields of hydrographic surveying, nautical charting, marine cartography and other relevant training programs Ø Continue providing assistance and guidance in the preparation of the requirements of becoming a full member State of the IHO and EAHC 11
