zy The Facts Drug and Alcohol abuse is the leading cause of death for people between the ages of 15 -24. Over 50% of students in Jr. High and High school admit to currently using or have used marijuana. Many drugs that are potentially dangerous when abused are being more widely accepted as safe.
But it’s legal! • • • Alcohol accounts for 95% of violence. 28% of college dropouts are alcoholics. Over 60% of all college women have contracted an STD while intoxicated. h
So why do so many abuse? • Peer pressure because everyone else is doing it. • Some feel that it offers an escape from the pressures of school. • This abuse of alcohol and drugs not only affects their academic life but social and family life as well. How can we help • Many resources are available including alcoholics anonymous, narcotics anonymous, counseling and psychological services, spiritual leader or even medical Dr. • We can also lean on friends for support or offer this help to fellow students who may be suffering. It is a huge a social problem that many of us students face. I have seen it personally and had my own experiences. I have found that through this class we need to address this social problem immedietly!
