The Individual Data Meeting (IDM) Collaborative Problem Solving
RTI – Teaming for Data Analysis & Decision Making MET Multidisciplinary Evaluation Team Tier 3 Tier 2 IDM Individual Data Meeting Tiers 2 & 3 GDM Tier 1 Group Data Meeting Tiers 1 & 2
Individual Data Meetings Purpose : Use a problem-solving process to identify issues that may be inhibiting a student’s progress. Goal: Develop interventions that address a student’s particular difficulties in order to increase chances of academic success.
IDM: Logistics o At the GDM, members agree on a date o Homeroom teacher invites the parent o EIS begins to compile pertinent data n n Cum. File Background/Family History Health Classroom Info.
IDM: Infrastructure Elements o o o Team includes EIS, School Psychologist, Parent, Teacher, Special Education, others as appropriate Documentation includes cum. file review & meeting Documentation forms Data includes benchmark, progress monitoring, classroom information & other relevant sources
IDM: Collaborative Problem Solving Process Define the Problem Analysis Evaluation Intervention Planning
IDM: Process o o o Process led by school psychologist Team specifically defines the problem n Strengths, Challenges, Interventions to Date, What Has Helped Team examines all possible explanations for the existence of the problem. n Bio-physical influences n Environmental influences n Social/Behavioral influences n Individual Trait influences
IDM: Process (cont’d. ) o o Team generates hypothesis to explain the existence of the problem. Team identifies interventions that address hypothesis n Who, when, & how Team identifies follow up meeting date n Intervention data is evaluated at follow up Team uses data to make decisions n Continue intervention at Tier 2 n Return student to Tier 1 n Move student to a Tier 3 intervention/Referral to Special Education
Special Education Consideration o Special education referral must be supported by the IDM hypothesis. n i. e. , suspected processing deficits, significant medical conditions or emotional conditions
Remember… o The goal of this process, GDM IDM, is to increase the likelihood of student success through data-driven decision-making & problem-solving. o This process may occasionally result in a special education referral. o It is expected that a large majority of students will be supported through continued general education intervention and progress monitoring.
