Can a bad person write a good book? book What do you think? Please write for 60 seconds
Can a bad person write a good book? • Can I still watch and enjoy the Cosby show? It was my favorite show when I was young. • Are Woody Allen movies OK to watch? What about a Roman Polansky film? • James Joyce was an alcoholic who used to fight violently with his partner, Nora; does that mean I shouldn't study his beautifully-written stories? • What is a bad man? • Who determines moral degrees? • We just had an impeachment trial, in which some people claim we have a bad leader and others claim we don't. Does this mean our country does not agree about or universally understand what “bad” is? • To whom can we turn in order to determine "badness"? • Is this a universal constant, or one that is decided or guided by community? Religion? Family? What happens when these groups disagree? • Does everything about a person have to be bad to for someone to be a "bad" person ? • If you do one really bad thing, but lots of other good things, are you still bad? • What's a good book? Does it mean enjoyable? Moral? Well-written? If I didn't enjoy Moby Dick, or if I loved a Stephanie Meyer novel, does that mean I don't understand what a good book is? • Who decides whether a book is good? What are the standards based on? • Can I think it's good if someone else thinks it's bad? • How are personal and shared knowledge involved?
