ABSTRACT n n n Ø Devices with small sized have some limitations. Since can’t make buttons and screens larger without loosing benefit of small sized. The main reason for appropriating the Human body as an input device are: Easily accessible by hands.

Introduction n n Skinput allows the user to simply tap their skin in order to control audio devices, play games, make phone calls. It uses the sensors to determine where the user taps on their skin.

What is Skinput n n n Giving input through skin. Was developed by Chris Harrison (Mellon Univ. ) Skinput turns the body into a touch screen surface.

Principle of Skinput n n n It listens to vibrations in your body. Skinput also responds to the various hand gestures. The arm is an instrument.

Technology Used n n n Skinput, the system is a combination of two technologies: the ability to detect the ultra low frequency sound and the ‘pico’ projectors. Pico projector applies the use of projector in a hand held device. An acoustic detector detects the ultra low frequency.

Pico Projector n n Ø Ø Ø It is also known as pocket projector or mobile projector. The system comprises three main parts: The Laser light source The Combiner optics The Scanning mirror

Bio-Acoustics Study of sound waves inside living body. n When a finger taps the skin, several distinct forms of acoustic energy are produced. Ø Longitudinal Waves Ø Transverse Waves n

Longitudinal Waves: These waves travel through the rigid tissues of the arm, exciting the waves, which can respond to the mechanical vibrations by tapping on a rigid body. Transverse Waves: Tapping on soft regions of the arm creates higher amplitude transverse waves.

Bio-Acoustics: Sensing n n These signals need to be sensed and worked upon. This is done by wearing the wave sensor arm band.

Percent Accuracy

Advantages n n n No need to interact with the gadget directly. Don’t have to worry about keypad. People with larger fingers get trouble in navigating tiny buttons and keypads on mobile phones. With skinput this problem disappears.

Applications n n Mobile Gaming I-pods An aid to paralyzed persons.

Future Implications n n With small sized Pico-projectors, Skinput oriented systems, are an emerging trend. Research is carried out for smaller wrist watch sized sensor arm band.

Conclusion n I have presented the approach to appropriating the human body as an input interface. I described a wearable bio-acoustic array used to detect and localize finger tap on the hand the forearm. This system performs well even when the body is in motion.
