“The Final Solution” • Hitler and other top Nazis propose a “final solution” to the Jewish question. • In other words, they wanted to kill all Jewish people.

Concentration Camps • Place where Jewish (and other unwanted groups) were held. • Different types of concentration camps: • Labor Camps • Prison Camps • Death Camps • Most famous is called Auschwitz. • Gas Chambers used to kill prisoners

The Gestapo and the SS • Gestapo are a sort of secret police in Germany. • SS are a large paramilitary organization. They carry out military campaigns but also help out with internal issues. • Duties often overlapped between the groups.

How many died? • 11 Million (6 Million were Jews) • Before the Holocaust there were 9 million Jews living in Europe. • Over a million died at Auschwitz alone.
