The history of the internet
When the internet was created? • The internet was created in 1983. • The first workable prototype of the Internet came in the late 1960 s with the creation of ARPANET, or the Advanced Research Projects Agency Network. Originally funded by the U. S. Department of Defence, ARPANET used packet switching to allow multiple computers to communicate on a single network. • The technology started to grow more in the 1970’s after scientists Robert Kahn and Vinton Cerf.
• In the 1980’s research at CERN in Switzerland by British computer scientist Tim burners- lee resulted in the world wide web. Linking hypertext documents into an information system, accessible from any node on the network.
1990’S • The internet had a revolutionary impact on culture, commerce, and technology, including the rise of near-instant communication by electronic mail, instant messaging, voice over internet protocol (Vo. IP)
Networks that led to the internet? • ARPANET Larry Roberts • NPL Donald Davies • Merit network • CYCLADES louis pouizin • UUCP and Usenet Tom Truscott, And Jim Ellis • CERN Tim Burners- Lee
