On January 13, 1913, 22 college women at Howard University established Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc. as a Greeklettered organization dedicated to public service. One month later on March 3 rd, 1913, the sorority marched for Women’s Suffrage in Washington, DC : the Sorority's first public act. 1

Delta Sigma Theta Sorority’s Reasons for Engagement § In 2011, 20% of African Americans were uninsured. § At least 59% of uninsured African Americans with incomes below the Medicaid expansion limit reside in states not expanding Medicaid. § African-Americans are at risk of facing coverage gaps due to states choosing not to expand Medicaid. § Show state decisions impact people of color, and disproportionately affect Black Americans. 9
