BIOGRAPHY • Giuseppe Garibaldi was an italian general, politician and nationalist who played a large role in the history of Italy. • • He was born in Nice in 1807 In 1837 he became an hero in South America because he fougth against the Brazil empire. In 1839 he met Ana Ribeiro da Silva( know as Anita) who married in 1842. • • In 1848 he retourned in Italy and he offered his service to Charles Albert of Sardinia in the First War of Indipendence against the Austrians but this war was unsuccerful and his wife, Anita, died.

The Redshirts is the name given at the 1089 volunteers who followed Giuseppe Garibaldi during his expedition in the south of Italy. They left from the port of Quarto in the night between the 5 th and 6 th of May 1860 and they arrived in the port of Marsala, in Sicily
