DISCUSSION – (ARTICLES 1&2) TUESDAY 1. What is happening to these migrant workers in Articles 1 and 2 that cause them to feel a loss of dignity? 2. What character traits does Steinbeck use to describe the American migrant workers in Article 1? Based on these traits, what is Steinbeck’s attitude towards these people? 3. What is a gypsy? Does the word have a positive or negative connotation? Considering Steinbeck's audience, why would he use this word to describe the migrant workers? 4. Why would the growers associations purposely import twice as much labor to keep wages low? 5. Why do the migrant workers dislike the people who could help them: doctors, social workers, police officers? 6. What is a vigilante? 7.
