History of Handshake The handshake was originated as a gesture of peace. Handshaking dates back to the early Neolithic period. The handshake has been around since ancient Greece.
What TO do Give a firm handshake. Make eye contact when handshaking. Smile when greeting someone.
What NOT to do Never handshake someone with a weak. Also don’t handshake someone from another culture. I say this because they might have a different custom. What might seem right to you might be wrong to them.
Other Cultures Brazil- A firm handshake with strong eye contact is a proper handshake in Brazil. China- Greet the oldest people first. Grip lightly and avoid direct eye contact. Morocco- Only handshake woman when she offers it.
People with Disabilities Visually impaired… see his face no his or her disability Missing or non-functioning right hand… shake his left hand. If someone isn’t able to shake at all… greet him by saying “good afternoon’’.
When to Shake Hands You can handshake someone when you are introducing yourself. Also when saying goodbye. Handshake before playing a sport.
What do you do if… Someone offers you their left hand… greet them by shaking his left hand. They have sweaty palms… handshake but don’t tell him or her of their sweaty palms. Someone doesn’t shake when you offer… Say “ hello’’ and greet him or her. Your hands are full… make eye contact and say hello.
Introduce Yourself Introduce yourself by handshaking. Tell him your name and be respectful. Ask him his name and start a conversation.

Handshake Styles (4) The Double Embrace The Curtsy Shake The Four-Finger Zinger The Patty Cake Shake
Style 1 - The Double Embrace Two-handed grab by one of the hand-shaking parties. This is an extremely polite gesture.
Style 2 -The Curtsy Shake This handshake is performed by shaking only the tips of their fingers.
Style 3 -The Four-Finger Zinger This hand shake is performed by shaking hand only using four fingers.
Style 4 - The Patty Cake Shake This handshake is performed by more than two people. All of the people gather their hands and stack them up.
