THE GREAT ELF GAME AIM: To deploy your team of Elves to gain maximum profit for your Ice cube business. OBJECTIVES: You must be able to calculate the price gained for selling your Ice cubes. You should be able to consider probabilities whilst doing this. You could be able to calculate the amount of tax you need to pay without a calculator.
THE CONCEPT You are in charge of an Ice cube business, you have 12 elves that work for you, cutting ice and bringing the cubes back for sale. Each day you must choose whether to send your elves to the ‘Nearby River’ where ice cubes are worth £ 10 or the ‘Faraway Lake’ where ice cubes are worth £ 20. However, elves will not be able to get to the ‘Faraway Lake’ if the temperature rises above 15 degrees and therefore bring no ice cubes back. There is a 1/3 chance of the temperature rising above 15 degrees to start with, then this varies. You have 13 days to make the biggest profit. The business that makes the most profit will win a prize.

Day 7 MUTINY IN THE RANKS The elves are demanding a day off after working for 7 days with no time off. Give them day 7 off and they will be happy. Make them go to work, and they will, but will vote on strike action that evening. There is a 50/50 chance they will go on strike for the next 2 days. Remember all 12 of your elves will make you no money for these 2 days. ODD EVEN

Day 10 - TAX MAN You thought you’d got away with avoiding the tax man. Don’t be silly!!! You have 2 choices pay your taxes up front now, 10% of your current total, or take a chance that he will announce a tax holiday. However if he doesn’t you will pay 20% of your total earnings when he visits at the end of the 13 th Day. Decide now which you will do, take a chance or not. Fill in the total amount of tax paid if paying now. Remember to take this off your running total.
