The Geelong College Early Learning OSHC – LEARNING AND DEVELOPMENT FRAMEWORK A PROPSOAL FOR LEARNING TERM 1, 2015 IDENTITY - Children have a strong sense of identity COMMUNITY - Children are connected with and contribute to their world WELLBEING - Children have a strong sense of wellbeing Learning Indicators • build secure attachment with one and then more familiar educators • use effective routines to help make predicted transitions smoothly • sense and respond to a feeling of belonging • Confidently explore and engage with social and physical environments through relationships and play Learning Indicators • broaden their understanding of the world in which they live • demonstrate a sense of belonging and comfort in their environments • Cooperate with others and negotiate roles and relationships in play episodes and group experiences Learning Indicators • are happy, healthy, safe and are connected to others • recognise and communicate their bodily needs (for example, thirst, hunger, rest, comfort, physical activity) • begin to understand, self-regulate and manage their emotions in ways that reflect the feelings and needs of others • Increasingly cooperate and work collaboratively with others. • Enjoy moments of solitude Learning experiences • Introduce OSHC routine. • Learning to be part of a group (small and large) • Encourage children to use the names of teachers and children • Encourage the children to explore the environment Learning experiences • Encourage children to talk and play with each other • Begin to contribute ideas to the group, and listen to others at group time • Encourage the children to participate in group activities Learning experiences • Talk about the importance of regularly drinking water from our drink bottles • Accepting comfort from teachers and peers when needed • Participating in group experiences to encourage noticing other children and a feeling of connection to the group • Encourage the children to make informed decisions about what they would like to participate in during after school care • Provide opportunities for the children to be part of a group experience or enjoy time for themselves LEARNING – Children are confident and involved learners Learning Indicators • • • PROJECT WORK Children think , enquire, wonder and reflect on specific topics and interests express wonder and interest in their environment use play to investigate, imagine and explore ideas manipulate objects and experiment with cause and effect, trial and error, and motion Initiate and contribute to play experiences emerging from their own ideas Explore their environment • • • observing children’s emerging interests authentic documentation - learning stories developing positive, caring, trusting relationships with all children and families • • EL OSHC Term 1, 2016 ‘FAMILY’ Learning experiences • Provocations set up in different learning areas; doll’s house with family and pets, natural materials for patterning, lightbox, Puzzles, books, colour blocks to reflect light • Kinetic Sand for sensory play indoors. • Variety of Arts and Crafts • Home corner with kitchen with cooking • Sandpit with buckets and cooking items • Trucks and cars play inside and out • Provide experiences that enable the children to explore and contribute to their own learning • Provide opportunities for the children to try a variety of new experiences Assessment For Learning and Development COMMUNICATION – Children are effective communicators Learning Indicators • • • What is a family? Who is our Family? Does everyone have Family? Assessment For Learning and Development • • • Have discussions with and about the children within our group to learn more about each other. Discuss “Family” make ups. showing an interest in learning about themselves and others • use the creative arts such as drawing, painting, sculpture, drama, dance, movement, music and story-telling to express ideas and make meaning Express ideas, feelings and understand to respect the perspectives of others. Contribute their ideas and experiences in play and small and large group discussion Learning experiences • • • Listen to stories: - In informal small groups at free play and within whole group Drawing – exploring the drawing materials of markers and pencils Painting- exploring paint using a variety of colours with brushes –acrylic paint and water colour. Encourage the children to express their thoughts and ideas Encourage the children to listen to the thoughts and ideas of others Assessment For Learning and Development • • • listening to stories to the end.
