Associate Degrees for Transfer • Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440, Padilla) created

Associate Degrees for Transfer • Student Transfer Achievement Reform Act (SB 1440, Padilla) created Associate Degrees for Transfer (ADTs) • These degrees are the first half of a 120 unit baccalaureate degree program with the California State University • Students completing an ADT are guaranteed: • Admission to a CSU campus with junior standing in a similar major to their ADT • Will not be required to take more than 60 units after transfer ASCCC Curriculum Institute July 7 – 9, 2016

ADT Obligation • The requirement to create an Associate Degree for Transfer if your college has an existing Associate Degree in the same TOP code began on August 30. • Contact the CO if you haven’t been able to create an ADT. • Colleges are not being asked to deactivate existing degrees if they are unable to comply with SB 440. • Chemistry and Biology ADTs will be due in September 2016 • New TMCs require degrees to be developed 18 months after posting ASCCC Curriculum Institute July 7 – 9, 2016

Possibilities for Model Curricula • Recent discussions with representatives from the CSU have opened the possibility of granting degrees aligned to some model curricula the same guarantees as ADTs • Only some ISMCs would grant these guarantees. Impacted programs (like nursing) would be excluded. • These are very early discussions, but ISMCs could be created to meet the needs of both the UC and CSU ASCCC Curriculum Institute July 7 – 9, 2016

Next Steps for Model Curriculum • Work with universities to determine if degrees Intersegmental Model Curriculum can help transfer students. • Develop process for recognizing and signaling model curriculum alignment. • Establish means of ensuring colleges align with model curriculum in the same way they develop degrees that align with TMCs. • Determine whether model curriculum aligned degrees will be offered guarantees similar to ADTs. This deadline will not be met! • Law and Public Policy has already gone through the DIG process and vetting is planned for the fall. • STEM and Social Work are two additional TMC possibilities that are currently being explored.
