Beck Hall Background

Beck Academic Hall Classrooms 18 month development process Primary Goals 1. Flexibility of space 2. Ease of use 3. Flexibility of lighting 4. Difficult to mess up

Flexibility of space • Teach from multiple locations • Teach sitting with the circle of students • Teach a class broken into small groups

Ease of use

Flexibility of lighting • Professors wanted to be able to not turn off lights o They were used to 10 year old 2200 lumen projectors • BRIGHT PROJECTORS • We considered using Epson's dual bulb projector, but decided the 5650 was good enough. • Worked with the lighting company get the best presets on the light switches -- but still have it be easy • Some professors wanted lights to automatically adjust when projector turned on, but obviously couldn't agree what the lights should do.

Difficult to mess up • Volume goes to 80% whenever input is switched • No 90 minute timeout (instead turn off based on signal) • No built in computer
