Class Notes The Assyrian Empire arose about 1000 years after Hammurabi Assyria was just north of the Tigris River Army was well-trained and wellorganized Their army was the first to use iron weapons (spears, daggers, soldiers on horseback) Empire was divided into provinces (political districts) Each province governed by an official who collected taxes and enforced laws The Chaldeans rebelled and took control of Ninevah in 612 B. C.

He ordered the Hanging Gardens to be built for his wife who missed her green homeland These are one of the 7 Wonders of the World Babylon was a major trade route, making it one of the world’s richest cities They were the first to introduce a 7 -day calendar The Chaldeans would eventually lose control of their empire to the Persians
