"The Family that Prays Together Stays Together" in the Year 2021 HOST CATHOLIC Holy Family and Saint Pius V Parishes
WELCOME
“The Family that Prays Together Stays Together” From Ven. Peyton How is this statement relevant today? It was stated in the 1950’s.
Is the Message of Father Peyton still relevant today?
The Family Today • While the Family that we still in images on TV from the 1950’s could be different from our own setting the message is still relevant. • The Message is about Prayer is the essential part of discipleship with Jesus Christ AND the Rosary is the most powerful prayer next to the Mass. • Father Peyton, now venerable (meaning he is on his way to sainthood), taught families to be strengthen by Prayer.
What is Prayer? Why Pray?
Prayer • Prayer is a conversation with God. It is the opening of our hearts and minds toward God. • Prayer is how we live our Faith both in liturgical prayer (Mass/sacraments) and in informal prayer such as Grace at Meals and the Rosary. • All Catholic Christians are called to a life of prayer.
Why Pray? • Jesus Prayed. Jesus is our model. • Jesus took time to pray in silence and he also taught us to pray the Our Father. • Jesus prayed in liturgical prayer in the Temple. • Jesus prayed in the Agony in the Garden. • Jesus lead others to prayer.
Prayer Helps Us Answer Our Call to HOLINESS “You, therefore, must be perfect, as your heavenly Father is perfect” (Matthew 5 : 48)
Father Peyton’s Message and Holiness üAs individual Catholic Christians if we have a regular routine of daily prayer and participate in the sacramental life of the church (by attending Mass and participating in Reconciliation) then we will grow in holiness. üHoliness is not for the clergy and religious only – it is for everyone. üIf a family prays together (whatever your family dynamic looks like in the year 2021) that will give your family spiritual strength with God’s grace. üAnd who is our best model – Mary the Mother of God.
From -- Venerable Patrick Peyton “We can do things that previous generations never dreamed of. We can reach the moon and walk on its surface, even float in limitless space. . . Yet many things have happened to show much man needs God. . . and so we have the perfect climate in which to proclaim the call to return to God through family prayer. ” – Venerable Patrick Peyton

• The Catholic Church teaches that the family is a "domestic church. " • In other words, the family is where we learn who God is and how we can be authentically human. • Prayer is a conversation with God in which we open our hearts to His grace and allow ourselves to be transformed in an encounter with Him. • Therefore, when families pray together, they invite God into their relationships and their life together. • This is why Venerable Patrick Peyton never tired of saying, "The Family That Prays Together Stays Together, " and "A World at Prayer is a World at Peace.
