The Family Ready To Be Free Eph 5
The Family Ready To Be Free Eph. 5: 2 -6: 4
The Word of God has much to say about the home and the structure of the family members. God has structured the family along clear-cut lines of authority and responsibility.
Divine Order For the Family 1 Cor. 11: 3 But I would you have you know, that the head of every man is Christ; and the head of the woman is the man; and the head of Christ is God. Col. 3: 20 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord.
Christ The head of the husband 2. Lord of the family 1.
Husband The head of the wife 2. Chief authority of the children 1.
Wife The help-meet to the husband (Gen. 2: 18) 2. Secondary authority over the children 1.
Children 1. Respectful and obedient to parents.
The husband lives under the authority of Christ and is responsible to Him for the leadership and care of the family.
The wife lives under the authority of her husband is responsible to him.
The children live under the authority of both parents and are commanded to honor and obey them in everything.
The Wife’s Responsibility Eph. 5: 22 -24, 33 Wives, submit yourselves unto your own husbands, as unto the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife, even as Christ is the head of the church: and He is the saviour. Therefore, as the church is subject unto Christ, so let the wives be to their husbands in everything.
Eph. 5: 33 Nevertheless , let everyone of you in particular so love his wife even as himself; and the wife see that she reverence her husband.
Submission To yield humble and intelligent obedience to an ordained authority. 2. A wife’s primary responsibility is to give of herself, her time and her energy to her husband, children and home. 3. In Bible, we find women used by God in leadership. 4. Wives, rejoice in husband’s authority over you. 5. In this, God will make you a blessing to your family, church and communuty. 1.
Reverence Paul, in Eph. 5: 33, wife is to reverence her husband. 2. 1 Pet. 3: 2 word us for reverence is translated ‘fear. ’ 3. This scripture also shares how a wife can be a witness 1.
Husband’s Responsibility 1 Pet. 3: 7 Likewise, ye husbands, dwell with them according to knowledge , giving honor unto the wife, as unto the weaker vessel, and as being heirs together of the grace of life; that your prayers be not hindered. Also study Eph. 5: 25 -33
Love 1. The husband is EXPLICITLY commanded to love his wife. times in Eph. 5 2. Though the wife must submit to her husband, he just as emphatically MUST love his wife. 3
Love Continued 3. Must learn how to forgive, reproving, not rebuking her. Must be done in love. 4. His first duty is to be Christ-like toward his wife. Man of prayer, a man of the Word of God, a man of the Church and a man of integrity and honesty, showing God’s love. Without this marriage is doomed for failure.
Honor In 1 Pet. 3: 7 honor = precious. A man’s wife must be ‘precious’ to him. A place of honor for her in his heart. Prov. 31: 10 …a good wife-her price is far above rubies. Goes on to say, [her husband] praises her. Read vs. 28, 29
Honor Continued If a man does not treat his wife tenderly and with honor will have his prayers hindered. Col. 3: 19 commands him not to be bitter against them [her]. How many times has God closed His heart toward a man’s prayer because he has injured his wife’s spirit and closed his heart to her? Spiritual victory in our homes requires personal relationships with family members to be proper.
Because marriage is spiritual as well as personal and physical, staying in love is primarily a spiritual battle. It is for this reason that surrender to God is so important for a happy love life.
Parent-Child Responsibilities Col. 3: 20 -21 Children, obey your parents in all things: for this is well pleasing unto the Lord. Fathers, provoke not your children to anger, lest they be discouraged. Study Eph. 6: 1 -4
A Children child’s relationship with the Lord is in direct relation to the obedience he gives his parents. A child may test parents authority to see how far he can go, but most want to know his parents authority will stand firm and that he can depend on it.
Children Continued A child’s rebellion may be in direct relationship with a lack of parental authority in his home. A child’s relationship with the Lord is strained as he disobeys his parents. Eph. 6: 1 enjoins children to obey their parents. Disobedience and rebellion are damnable sin in scripture and obedience and loyalty are greatly blessed.
Parents Love, discipline and teach Recognize God-given responsibility and authority as it relates to your children Confess and correct mistakes and sins to your children
