THE EXTINCTION OF ROUND ROBIN READING: HOW ORAL READING AFFECTS COMPREHENSION AND STUDENT MOTIVATION
Research Questions and Rationale What are oral reading strategies that can be used to boost comprehension and fluency? How does the use of various oral reading strategies affect students? Teachers continue to use Round Robin Reading across the country and in my school KPREP Reading scores in my school have shown little change until this past year Many teachers across content areas struggle with students who lack motivation to read
Methodology Participants and Setting: Approximately 120 6 th grade students at a rural middle school in my social studies classes Procedures: I will compare Round Robin, Assisted, and Repeated Reading strategies. 1. 2. 3. 4. Students will read a passage using the oral reading strategies and answer comprehension questions related to our S. S. topic. Students engage in reflective activities afterwards— survey, interviews. Behavior observations will be logged in a journal. Data will be tracked, coded, and graphed to measure the changes in comprehension and motivation with each reading strategy.
