Consecration, Rebellion, Consecration The Golden Calf 32: 1 -6 Aaron makes an idol for the people. They ask for it because Moses “delays. ” Aaron makes a golden calf. They give it credit for God’s work & worship it 32: 7 -10 The Lord reacts in anger. He tells Moses to leave him alone; that he will destroy the people; and that he will build a new nation from Moses. 32: 11 Moses intercedes for the people. He appeals to “the Lord’s name. ” The Lord changes his mind.

He burns the calf, grinds it, and puts it in water, which he makes the people drink. When Aaron claims “The people asked, and “out it came, ” Moses angrily calls for those on the Lord’s side. Levites respond, and he has them execute 3000. Moses begs God to forgive the people. 29 -35 He says he will lead them on. He also punishes them.
